Lady Eagles aiming to capture a conference championship
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss women's basketball team has had a phenomenal season so far.
The girls currently have a (21-9) overall record.
The Lady Eagles finished off the regular season winning their last 10/11 games, and enjoyed a 7-game winning streak to close out the regular season.
But, now, the Lady Eagles are in Birmingham, Ala., for this year's Conference USA Tournament, and are hoping to make it to the conference championship for the third time in four years.
Head coach, Joye Lee-McNelis said, "It will be quite an accomplishment if this undersized team could win a conference championship. But, I will tell you this, I think their heart is as big as this coliseum. And, we will give it our best."
"It would mean a lot. Obviously, I'm a senior. My last go-around, my third time there. They always say third time's the charm. And, so, I don't want to leave empty-handed. I want to leave with something. I've been there. And, both years I've been there, I made it to the championship. And, I expect nothing less of this year. With both years we went, I had a bye. We have a bye this year, and so things are really looking very great as of the chances of the last two winning seasons we had. And, so, I'm very confident in that. And, I just expect to go and give it my all, and finish the job," said guard, Brittanny Dinkins.
The Lady Eagles have a bye Wednesday and will play their first game Thursday against either Old Dominion or UTEP.
