JONES COUNTY, Miss. - Folks who want to do a little spring cleaning around the house can finally do so by participating in the Jones County Household Hazardous Waste Day.

Officials will be collecting any household items that contain chemicals and items that are hazardous.

Allyson Knotts, Jones County Sheriff’s Department public relations spokesperson said, "Environmentally speaking, we don't want these chemicals poured into the ground. We definitely don't want them poured into our water systems. We don't want expired narcotics, expired drugs to be flushed down into the water system, because these things can damage us environmentally."

Officials urge people to not bring anything that may be explosive.

The event will take place at the fairgrounds parking lot near the Magnolia Center in Ellisville Saturday from 8-12 p.m.
