Jones County man arrested, commercial burglary

|This is a press release from the Jones County Sheriff's Department

JONES COUNTY, Miss. - On April 11, 2017, Jones County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to Zuniga Tire Shop for a possible burglary suspect. The owner of the shop reported that the day before, Rickey L. Dean, 33 of Laurel, stopped by the shop on Ellisville Blvd., with the supposed purpose of looking at tires. Dean stopped by after hours and was seen by an employee leaving the tire shop office with something in his pocket. Later, the owner noticed the bank bag, banking information and the owner’s passport missing, all worth over $500.

On April 11, 2017 the owner was contacted by Dean via cellphone advising that he had the items missing from the owner’s office and wanted $200 in cash and a set of tires for the property to be returned. The owner agreed and Dean informed him he was en route to the shop. The owner then contacted the Sheriff’s Department. Dean was stopped by patrol deputies shortly after, and in Dean’s possession was the phone from which he had made the call.

Dean was taken into custody and charged with Extortion and Commercial Burglary.
