Wayne county drug bust suspects change plea to 'guilty'
WAYNE COUNTY, Miss. - Authorities arrested Berenice Jaramillo and Penaloza Sanchez last March near the Wayne-Jones county border.
Wayne County Sheriff Jody Ashley said they were caught with more than $3 million worth of cocaine.
Both suspects changed their pleas to guilty in Federal Court Wednesday according to Sheriff Ashley.
Jaramillo and Penaloza were initially charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute. Sheriff Ashley said they are now charged with misprision of a felony and could face a maximum of 36 months in prison.
Authorities found more than 70 kilos of cocaine in the back of the pick up truck. "We enforce the law, but its up to the court system to do what they decide" said Sheriff Ashley.
Their sentencing will be July 19.
