Local house turns into a museum

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - A house on Miller Street recently was bought by the Hattiesburg Convention Commission, and will now be turned into a museum.
The house belonged to Oseola McCarty who was a washerman.
McCarty created a trust fund in 1995, which included around $150,000 of her life savings that was dedicated for Southern Miss to use for scholarships to students who need financial assistance.
She died in 1999 due to liver cancer.
Southern Miss honored McCarty by naming her gift the Oseola McCarty Endowed Scholarship.
