HPD encourages citizens to participate in its Drug Take Back event

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Hattiesburg Police Department is having its Drug Take Back event Saturday.

This will allow people to properly throw away unwanted or expired prescription or over-the-counter drugs.

Hattiesburg Police Officer, Lt. Jon Traxler said, "We partner with the DEA and the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics. They help us with properly disposing these, because the last thing we want is this stuff to end back up into our landfills or our water system, because that does cause birth defects. But, also, it helps us cut down on drug overdose, as well as drug addiction."

The event will take place in front of the Hattiesburg Police Department from 10-2 p.m.
