Longtime Collins mayor defeated in Democratic primaries by two votes

COLLINS, MS. - The longtime Democratic Mayor of Collins, V.O. Smith was defeated in the Democratic primaries against Hope Magee Jones.

The election committee officially recounted the primary votes Thursday and Smith lost by two votes.

On Tuesday officials originally counted 280 votes for Smith and 285 for Jones.

Jones will face Independent Tom Brooks in the General Election June 6.
