United Blood Services encourages people to become a hero this week

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - United Blood Services is in need of blood donations.

The Hattiesburg location needs one specific blood type.

Donor Recruitment Supervisor, Katie Martin said, “Currently we are experiencing an increased need for blood donations, especially the negative blood type. And we are anticipating that need is going to further increase through the Memorial Day holiday. So, we are in need of your help now.”

Martin said they need 250 blood donors every day just to meet patient needs. And she believes donors can impact someone’s life.

“We encourage people that as you get ready to spend time with your family this weekend, that you make it a priority to come in and donate that blood to keep somebody else’s family member alive or gives them a fighting chance that’s needing that blood in that hospital right now,” said Martin.

If you decide to donate, all you need to bring is a picture ID.

Hattiesburg’s United Blood Services will have burgers and t-shirts for donors on Friday.
