Mayor Magee signs proclamation for Wound Care Awareness Week


LAUREL, Miss. - Members of South Central Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine Center at South Central Regional Medical Center were at City Hall Tuesday to join Mayor Johnny Magee for a proclamation.

Mayor Magee signed a proclamation declaring June 5-9 Wound Care Awareness Week.

Dr. Thomas Dobbs, South Central Regional Medical Center’s Chief Medical Officer said, "It's really remarkable particularly if you can talk to someone who's gone from having a large open wound, painful prone to reinfection, particularly with much diabetes, hypertension vast disease we have. We have a lot of people who are prone to these really horrible wounds. And the benefit someone can have from rapid closure or maintenance from infection is really hard to state. It just gives people functionality and helps them live their lives."

6.7 million people in the United States are affected with chronic wounds.

Dobbs said 500 wound care patients are currently enrolled at South Central Regional Medical Center.
