HPD's Public Information Officer, Lt. Jon Traxler retires

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Hattiesburg Police Department’s Public Information Officer, Lt. Jon Traxler has officially retired.

Traxler spent two dozen years with the Hattiesburg Police Department. His last day on the job was Tuesday, and he said him retiring is bitter-sweet.

"There's times that I wake up and I go ‘I don't want to go.’ But, there's times I look at and for financial reasons, it's time for me. Plus 24 years of doing this with the City of Hattiesburg, it's time to turn that torch over to someone else and let them now take charge and handle the reins and be able to help the city as well. So that's why the time has come. It's just time to go back and relax with my family and give more time to them," said Traxler.

Traxler said his favorite memory was helping raise funds to build Hope Park.

Traxler said he will now work for a local private sector.
