MS National Guard 1 killed, 3 injured, soldier identified


PINE BELT, MS. - The Mississippi National Guard is sad to announce the death of Sergeant (Sgt.) Kyle Clayton Thomas, 24, of Amory, MS.

During training operations Monday in Fort Irwin, California Sgt. Clayton and three other soldiers were conducting combat maneuver operations in an army battle tank authorities said.

Officials said the vehicle was involved in a rollover incident. The three injured soldiers were airlifted to Loma Linda Medical Center in Loma Linda, CA and have all been released from the hospital.

“Our deepest sympathies go out to Sgt. Thomas’ family and friends,” said Col. Doug Ferguson, commander of the 155th ABCT. “We have lost a valuable member of our team and this loss will be felt across the brigade

All four soldiers are a part of the 155th Armored Brigade Combat team. According to the MS National Guard the incident remains under investigation.
