USM eliminates 37 positions for budget reduction


Hattiesburg, Miss. - USM is the latest to make personnel cuts to offset a nearly ten percent budget reduction.

Southern Miss officials say 37 positions have been eliminated as a result of the budget shortfall.

Four employees were terminated while the remainder came from vacate faculty and staff positions.

Schools have had to raise in an effort to offset some of the loss, but according to the numbers USM's enrollment has dropped by nearly 1,500 students since 2012.
