Heidelberg man charged with murder in Wayne County after deadly shooting

WAYNE COUNTY, MS. - A 23-year-old Heidelberg man is behind bars in Wayne County after a shooting early Sunday morning.

Wayne County Sheriff Jody Ashley said the incident occurred on Landfill Road. He said, "It happened at a house party with up to 300 people present."

Demarco Pruitt was taken into custody and charged with the murder of Scott Walker, 23, of Jasper County Sunday afternoon. According to Sheriff Ashley Pruitt was not found at his residence in Heidelberg.

The Jasper County Sheriff's Department spotted Pruitt during a traffic stop. Sheriff Ashley said, "He was attempting to evade deputies."

Wayne County Sheriff's Department is working with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) regarding the case. "I want to thank the Jasper County Sheriff's Department for their assistance" said Sheriff Ashley.

Pruitt's initial appearance is scheduled for Tuesday.
