Jones Co.K9s receives new protective vests

Jones County, Miss. - Jones County Sheriff's Department received five brand new custom made vest for their K9 unit.

Lance Chancellor, Grant Administrator, reached out to an organization in need of protective assistance for their police dogs.

Vested Interested in K9 is a non-profit charity organization that donates specialized vest for K9s across the county.

“Those vest which have a value anywhere between 1,700 and 2,000 dollars a piece are then issued out to departments and we are very fortunate to receive vest through Vested Interest in K9 for our K9 partners.” Chancellor said.

Sgt. Michelle Howell. Jones County Handler, says she feels a sense of relief now that her K9 Buck has protection. "When we send the dogs in like on a suspect it gives them added protection, in case the suspect has a knife, a gun, something like that and try to harm the dog once the dog has a hold of them, it’ll be protection around his chest area, and through his flank area.”
