Forrest General's Spirit of Women celebrates ninth annual Football 101
Hattiesburg, Miss. - Forrest General's Spirit of Women and University of Southern Mississippi hosted their annual "Football 101: Chalk Talk for Ladies" event.
This annual events kicks off the start to the college football season. Attendees had the opportunity to meet USM Head Football Coach Jay Hopson, USM football players and the Spirit of Women committee. "We’ve done this for about 9 years now and it’s always a wonderful event for the ladies to come out...some ladies don’t know anything about football and they want a little behind the scenes scoop. So we do it to provide that information.” Kathy Walker, Spirit of Women Coordinator, said.
Hopson says the Chalk Talk creates an opportunity to establish a link between women and football.
"Tonight is just a fun night, it’s a night where we really get to show appreciation to all the ladies that follow golden eagle football and just want to thank them for all their contributions, coming to the games, supporting us and hopefully we can have a fun night and talk about some football.”
The ladies got a chance to break into different sessions to hear from the offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator. Hopson and his wife met with as many women as possible, before and after the q&a, to show their gratitude. The women also learned a Southern Miss cheer and enjoyed tailgate style food.
