Hattiesburg woman charged with murder, first homicide of the year

HATTIESBURG, MS. - A Hattiesburg woman is charged with murder after stabbing her significant other Friday according to police.

Lieutenant (Lt.) Latosha Mitchell-Myers with the Hattiesburg Police Department says police were dispatched to the 900 block of Dabbs Street in reference to a stabbing.

"Officers observed a male laying on the ground with what appeared to be a stab wound to the left side of his body" said Lt. Myers.

Jonicqua Moffett, 20, was taken into custody and charged with first degree murder. HPD identified the victim as Cordaeil Miller, 26.

Lt. Myers says, "The incident allegedly ensured from an altercation between the two subjects who were in a dating relationship."

According to authorities Miller succumbed to his injuries at Forrest General Hospital. Moffett's bond was set at $500,000 Monday.

HPD says this is the first murder of 2017.

This is an ongoing investigation according to Lt. Myers. Anyone with additional information should contact the Hattiesburg Police Department or Metro Crime Stoppers.
