Jones Co. deputies arrest 2 more in child neglect case

JONES COUNTY, MS. - The following is a press release from the Jones County Sheriff's Department.

On August 1, 2017, Jones County Sheriff’s Investigators were called to South Central Regional Medical Center concerning a three-month old male infant that was brought to the hospital by a concerned citizen. The baby had red bruising on his legs, stomach, foot and face. There were also marks on the side of his face. Some of the marks on his body clearly showed small teeth impressions, as from a child. After questioning, it was discovered the baby had a one-year old sister, who likes to bite.

During the on-site investigation, it was determined Kayla Reeves, 23 of Collins, was supposed to be watching and caring for the child. When deputies arrived at a residence on Scoggins Drive where Reeves was staying, she stated the baby was in her custody and she was the responsible party. She was taken into custody and later charged with Child, Contributing to Delinquency or Neglect.

During Reeves’ interview she stated Brenda Del-Rio, 46 of Taylorsville (Walters' mother) and Clarence Walters, 25 of Taylorsville, Reeves’ boyfriend, saw the injuries to the infant and did not call nor seek medical attention for the child. Del-Rio was questioned concerning the baby and stated she indeed saw the injuries and told Reeves to take the baby to the doctor, but didn’t make sure she did. Del-Rio went on to say it was none of her concern what was done to the baby.

Del-Rio and Walters were taken in to custody and charged with Child, Contributing to Delinquency or Neglect.

Bond set for Del Rio and Walters at $10,000.
