HPD inspects child safety seats

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Hattiesburg Police Department and the Fire Training Academy teamed up Friday to host a National Child Passenger Safety Certification course at N.E.E.D.S II Child Care Center.

This was done in order to properly check and certify parents and/or caregivers for proper installation of all child safety seats.

Hattiesburg Police Officer, Chad Young said, "Statistics show that over 80% of parents don't know how to install their child safety seats in properly. So, today, we're here basically to just educate them and get them more aware of how to properly install them in the right way. In traffic, we work a lot of scenes where there's a lot of fatalities. And basically, our main goal here today is to prevent that and lessen that number if possible."

A child must be placed in a booster seat until they are 4’9 or 65 pounds.
