USM prepares for its annual Father/Son Camp

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss baseball program returns with its 3nd annual Father/Son camp set for Saturday, Aug. 26, as well as three different fall camps – Fall Instructional League, Hitting Under the Lights and Fall Showcase - at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field.
This Father Son camp will provide an outstanding bonding opportunity for the parent and child while also learning the game of baseball and developing an understanding of key fundamentals in maximizing their child’s full potential. Teaching areas will include pitching, hitting, catching, infield and outfield play. The goal of this one-day camp is to provide answers and training solutions to the questions that are most often asked by today’s fathers and youth league players. [if !supportLineBreakNewLine] [endif]Southern Miss Baseball Camps include specific and professional caliber instruction in all phases of the game including hitting, pitching, defense, and base-running. Camp counselors and staff will include the Southern Miss Baseball coaching staff, and current collegiate athletes along with a professional athletic trainer.
The camp will run from 1-5 p.m., with check-in time starting at 12:15 p.m. The camp cost is $100 (fee includes T-shirt for both child and parent and $25 for each additional child) and is open to parents and their children entering kindergarten through 8th grade.
The Fall Instructional League Camp, which runs from Sept. 12-Oct. 1, is a three-week, six-session camp that is open to high school players. It takes place each Tuesday from 6-8 p.m., and Sunday from 2-5 p.m. Space is limited to the first 60 campers. The Tuesday night sessions will consist of an instructional practice and games will be played on Sunday nights. Campers will be divided into four teams. Current Southern Miss players, staff and coaches will instruct and coach each team. On occasion, a guest speaker will address a camp session. [if !supportLineBreakNewLine] [endif] The camp is open to those individuals entering 9th through 12th grade and the cost is $240 per camper for all six sessions and $150 for the three weekend sessions. Campers will receive a t-shirt (to be worn in games) and insurance for attending the camp.
The second camp is the Hitting under the Lights at The Pete Camp, running on four consecutive Monday nights from 6-8 p.m., beginning Sept. 25, and will consist of specific hitting mechanics, approach and other instruction related to the Southern Miss baseball hitting philosophy. This camp is designed for high school hitters to learn from current Golden Eagle coaches and players about the proper steps to being a successful hitter. It will include insurance and a t-shirt as players will benefit from learning proper techniques, mental process, and repetition. [if !supportLineBreakNewLine] [endif] The camp is open to those individuals entering 9th through 12th grade and the cost is $150 per camper or $125 per camper who is also enrolled in the Fall Instructional League Camp.
The final camp is the Fall Showcase Camp, Sunday, Nov. 19, at 12 noon, with sign-in beginning at 11 a.m. It provides a great opportunity for players ranging from high school freshman to junior college sophomores (junior college freshmen must be academic qualifier). Participants will be given a chance to have their skills toned by college coaches receive specific instruction to their defensive position, speed training to improve their 60 time, as well as hitting at Pete Taylor Park. Any pitcher who is a dual player will be able to participate at both positions. Each camper will receive a camp T-shirt. Lunch will not be provided. All camps during the fall will take place at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field.
