Mayor Toby Barker selects nominees for municipal court

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Mayor Toby Barker announced Monday that Wes Curry will be replacing Judge Jerry Evans as Municipal Court Judge during a press conference at city hall.

"We want a municipal court that is world-class. We want a municipal court that is more than just a place where we generate revenue. We want it to be a site where people are empowered to live better lives. Wes Curry brings judicial experience. And his experience with the justice court judge, he knows how a court room should run. So him working with our new clerk, Phillip McSwain, I think Hattiesburg residents can expect to see big things in terms of customer service, efficiency, and innovation," said Mayor Barker.

Shakita Taylor will serve as public defender and Sally O' Flynn will serve as city prosecutor.

Mayor Barker said these nominations will help generate $34,000 in savings.

The nominees will begin their new journey on October 1.
