Kwadra Griggs will start against Southern
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss played two quarterbacks in its 24-17 loss to Kentucky this past Saturday.
Although the Golden Eagles lost, there were some positives that came out of that game, which sparked the coaches to announce a new starting quarterback for week two.
Head coach, Jay Hopson said, "We're probably going to start with Kwadra (Griggs) this week. I think that's something that we'll kind of do what we've done. We're going to let them both compete. But I think he probably earned that. I think both quarterbacks played a half. He really had an outstanding second half. I thought Keon (Howard) did a lot of great things too. So, we'll just let them compete. That's all I know. Competition is what this whole world is about. So at the end of the day, we'll just let them compete. Keon will be ready when his opportunity comes."
Griggs went 15/26 with 222 yards and two touchdowns in the second half. Howard went 7/14 with 87 yards in the first half against Kentucky.
Southern Miss will host Southern Saturday at The Rock.
