Gas prices expected to remain high in Pine Belt

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - According to Gasbuddy.com American drivers are likely to experience an increase of 10 cents per gallon to 20 cents per gallon from shipping disruptions due to hurricane and tropical storms in the Gulf Coast.

“The refineries had to shut down, the platforms had to shut down, I think you had some shortages in the pipelines as well. It’s understandable, supply and demand, it is what it is, I don’t like it but I understand it,” said one Pine Belt resident as she pumped her gas at the Chevron gas station on Hwy. 98

According to oil price information service, about 2.5 million barrels of oil a day in the Gulf Coast are offline from Hurricane Harvey storm damage.
