Pine Belt churches accepting donations for Hurricane Irma relief
PINE BELT, MS. - The four Catholic Churches in the Pine Belt are accepting donations to help with Hurricane Irma relief. Church volunteers were at the Winn Dixie parking lot on Lincoln Road Tuesday filling up a large truck with donations.
Volunteer, Casey Mercier, says two volunteers will drive the truck-load to Florida Wednesday to a catholic charities organization assisting with local hurricane relief.
According to Mercier the churches had success raising donations for Hurricane Harvey relief three weeks ago.
“They (churches) came together the first time for the Hurricane efforts in Texas and the Catholic community and the Hattiesburg community have been so generous and we are trying to do this one more time for the folks in Florida" says Mercier.
The churches are still accepting the following donations: Diapers, Baby wipes, Baby formula, Hygiene products, Paper towels, Toilet paper, Flashlights with batteries, Eating utensils, Can openers, Hand sanitizer/Antibacterial wipes, Non-Perishable food items such as but not limited to: Beef Jerky, Cheese or Peanut Butter crackers, Granola bars, Cereal bars, or Power bars, and Canned meats.
Donators can drop off goods at any of the four churches.
