18-Wheeler Involved In A Deadly, Fiery Crash

HATTIESBURG, MISS - One man is dead after an 18-wheeler caught fire on I-59 South around 9:15 AM near the Evelyn Gandy Parkway exit.

Forrest county coroner Lisa Klem confirmed the death of the male semi-truck driver who collided with a pickup truck with two people inside. The crash sent both drivers from the interstate lanes into the woods.

"Two occupants in the vehicle in the pick up truck, a driver and an occupant were both injured and transferred to Forrest General Hospital," Mississippi highway patrol man, Brent Barfield said. "The semi-driver is still on the scene. Emergency workers, are working to try to get him from the wreckage. The semi was not hauling anything hazardous, we do not have anything hazardous on the scene.”

An autopsy will be performed on the semi-truck driver.
