Laurel Mayor Takes Action Against Domestic Violence

Laurel's mayor Johnny Magee wants to use this month to take on domestic violence. Mayor Magee signed a proclamation Tuesday declaring October as domestic violence month.

"This is an annual event we do to bring awareness to domestic violence... everybody is touched by domestic violence," Magee said. "We just want to bring awareness to the fact, so people will be aware and know there are resources out there to help you get out of a bad situation."

Statistics show one out of every three women, and one of every four men have experienced some form of physical violence by an intimate partner within their lifetime.
