The Good Samaritan Soup Kitchen in Laurel Feeds Hundreds of People for Thanksgiving

HATTIESBURG, MISS. - "Some kids might not have Thanksgiving on Thursday.... and we are trying to prepare that meal for them today, and make sure they have a good hot meal... even if they don't have nothing Thursday," the Good Samaritan Soup Kitchen's manager, Terrence Crosby said. Crosby along with rest of the Soup Kitchen in Laurel feed low-income families an early Thanksgiving meal. The Soup Kitchen's employees and volunteers say it through these acts of kindness that they are able to touch their community, one meal at a time. "It's all about giving back, and we have to realize that as people because there are people less fortunate than we are," volunteer, Charles Parker said. "Not only across the United States, but across the world so anytime we get a blessing like this, we are highly appreciative." "Man, this is a blessing," Laurel resident, Charles Pierce said. "If it were not for the soup kitchen, I don't know what a lot of these people would do." Giving back to the community through a collective effort. Today's volunteers consisted of employees from Mississippi Power, local residents, and even a local high school organization called The Pearls. "We got a lot of volunteers that helped us out," Terrence Crosby said. "We had eighteen people from Mississippi Power, and I got my luck momma here who came out and helped out for a little while." "I wasn't intending to, but they put me to work anyway," Terrence Crosby's mother, Callie Crosby replied jokingly. Just as thankful as Terrence maybe for the help he received from his volunteers, they said that they are more than happy to lend a hand. "Thanks to Terrence because without him, people wouldn't have the things they have," volunteer, Myron Brown said. "I just want to let him know that I enjoy coming down here working for him and helping out the community." The Good Samaritan Soup Kitchen will also serve a Christmas dinner next month.
