City of Hattiesburg: Clemon Terrell, director of parks and recreation, dies

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Funeral arrangements are complete for a city leader who passed away Thursday.

Dr. Clemon Terrell, who served as parks and recreation director, died of an apparent heart attack, Forrest County Deputy Coroner Lisa Klem said.

"More than an administrator, he was a mentor, encourager and friend to so many in Hattiesburg," Mayor Toby Barker said in a statement. "All of our city employees - who were Clemon Terrell’s second family - send their heartfelt thoughts, prayers and sympathies to his wife Rosalind, his five children and his grandchildren," the mayor added.

Terrell, 54, was also a running back with the Southern Miss football team from 1980 until 1983.

Visitation for Dr. Terrell will take place December 4 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Forrest Funeral Home, located at 1258 Richburg Road.

Additional visitation will be held December 5 at Grace Temple Church, located at 1131 Richburg Road, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. The funeral will follow at 11 a.m. also at Grace Temple Church.
