Mayor Barker presents Key of Hattiesburg to MLB player Brian Dozier

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Mayor Toby Barker presented the key of Hattiesburg to USM Alumni and Minnestoa Twins Baseball Second Baseman Brian Dozier Thursday at City Hall.

"I hearby proclaim on this 14th day in December, that I, Toby Barker, grant Brian Dozier a lifetime key to the city of Hattiesburg. For his many years of accomplishments and claiming Hattiesburg his home,” said Barker.

The Southern Miss Alumni was named freshman All-American and selected to the Conference USA All Freshman team. In 224 career games at Southern Miss he hit 55 doubles, seven triples, 16 home runs, and 152 runs batted in. He later attended the college world series in 2009 with USM.

"When you surround yourself with people that are a lot better than you – that knows a lot more than you do – like what I got to experience with Corky Palmer, Lane Burrows, and Scott Berry and the teammates that are phenomenal...it makes yourself better." said Brian Dozier during an interview.

Dozier was drafted by the Minnesota twins in the 8-th round in the 2009 Major League Baseball draft and was chosen as the Twins Minor League player of the year in 2011.
