Former Powers Fire Chief passes away

HATTIESBURG, MISS. – Jones County firefighters and Emergency Medical Responders mourn the death of former Powers Fire Chief, Ray Melton. Melton served as a founding member of the city's volunteer fire department, and also served the City of Laurel as a firefighter. Many people acknowledged Melton as a hero, an incredible firefighter, a paint and body shop legend, and a man who loved his family both blood and red. Melton passed away after coming down with a brief illness. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time.
