Two Local Amateur Boxers Compete in the Pro & Amateur Boxing Matches in Laurel

HATTIESBURG, MISS - There's nothing like a good old fashion fist fight from time to time, even right here in Southern Mississippi. Over the weekend, Laurel hosted a pro and amateur boxing night. Two local amateur boxers of the Hattiesburg Boxing Club received a chance to fight on the undercard before the main event. Both Javion Smith and Amir Smith managed to come out and pull off wins in their fight Friday night. These brothers, both explained their keys to victory. "The keys, I stayed confident. Kept some power, kept some movement. I did my job listened to my coach, and you know. We took care of what we had to do," Javion Smith said. Javion’s younger brother, Amir Smith admitted to having a slow start but managed to pick up the pace in the later rounds. "I ain't start off too good. So I had to come back, so I had to pick up all my boxing skills. It was more like a thinking process... Then win the fight," Amir Smith said. Later that night pro boxer Rydell Booker went on to win in the main event.
