Forrest General Holds Flag Dedication in Honor of National Donate Life Month

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency (MORA), Forrest General and other hospital partners across the state held a flag dedication ceremony to promote National Donate Life Month during April on Monday.

The ceremony honored and recognized the importance of organ, eye and tissue donation. The guest speaker shared the story of her son’s passing and how his donation gave sight to another man who could not see.

“It’s something that I believe should be done because, not only does it help other people, it can help you and your grieving process...to know that the incident that happened to you and your family can have good come out of it,” said Donor Mom and Guest Speaker, Charlotte Grayson.

In 2017, the hospital had 8 organ donors who were able to transplant 33 organs including eye and tissue.

The federal government requires hospitals to have policies and procedures in place to insure that each family is given the opportunity to donate organs and tissue upon the death of a loved one.
