JCJC honors retired MLB player Buddy Myer

ELLISVILLE – One of Mississippi’s top professional baseball players was recognized recently at Jones County Junior College’s Community Bank Park.
Charles Solomon “Buddy” Myer, an Ellisville native, had a plaque dedicated in his honor prior to the April 21 doubleheader between JCJC and Mississippi Delta.
Myer was born on March 16, 1904, in Ellisville. He attended Ellisville Agricultural High School and Mississippi A&M College, which later became Mississippi State University.
Myer began his Major League career in 1925 with the Washington Senators. He played with the Boston Red Sox in 1927 and 1928 before going back to the Senators, where he would continue playing until he retired in 1941.
He had a career batting average of .303 in his 16-year big league career.
