Coach Joey Hawkins Set to Retire
HATTIESBURG, MISS. - The students and staff of Presbyterian Christian High School in Hattiesburg, Mississippi hosted a Retirement Celebration honoring Coach Joey Hawkins on May 9. Hawkins coached both the football and track teams, and is retiring after 37 years of coaching. “I’ve been here nine years, and we won four state championships in track and a lot of district championships,” Hawkins said. “I’ve been blessed. But that’s not really the big thing. The big thing is that I’ve been able to meet a lot of great people.” Throughout his career, Hawkins led his team to victory in over 200 football games, and multiple state championships for track. “I’m still so close to the parents of kids I coached thirty years ago,” Hawkins said. “Coaching has been a wonderful profession, and I have been honored to meet so many great coaches.” Even after all of his achievements, Hawkins will mostly miss just being with the kids.
