PRCC unveils new look ahead of football season

POPLARVILLE - The Gridiron Wildcats will have a sharp new look when they take the field in 2018.

Thanks to Pearl River Community College's new exclusive partnership with Under Armour, the Wildcats will combine tradition with a new contemporary style under head coach Ted Egger.

In addition to PRCC's classic maroon and white uniforms, the Wildcats have added an all-black look to showcase in special games.

"It's changing the mold a little bit from what's been done in the past, but we needed something to set us apart," said Egger, who led PRCC to a 5-4 record as the interim coach in 2017. "We're working toward doing things that haven't been done here before, so we needed something to get us going."

The black uniforms will feature "Pearl River" across the chest in Wildcat Maroon, outlined in Wildcat Gold. The numbers will be similar, while Wildcat Maroon stripes on the shoulders are accented by two Wildcat Gold stripes.

The new fitted uniform also boasts a Wildcat Maroon collar that is tied together with black indentions akin to football laces.

In addition to the new uniforms, the Wildcats have new black matte helmets that feature an enlarged metallic Wildcat emblem.

The updated logo will also be prominent on the white helmets, while the Wildcat Maroon head gear will remain the same in '18 — as will Under Armour's white and Wildcat Maroon uniforms.

UNIFORM WILDCATS

The 2018-19 school year will mark the first time all of the Wildcats' athletics programs have been clothed by the same retailer.

"We're moving in the right direction. PRCC President Dr. Adam Breerwood and Athletic Director Jeff Long are doing everything they can to make sure we get what we need to be successful," Egger said. "I think the exclusive partnership is huge.

"To me it sets us apart from a lot of people, and not just football but the whole school. It shows we're all on the same page."

ALMOST TIME FOR KICKOFF

The Wildcats will look to improve on an impressive 2017 season starting on Thursday, Aug. 30 when PRCC welcomes Itawamba to Dobie Holden Stadium for a 6 p.m. kickoff.

PRCC will officially reveal the 2018 squad at Meet the Wildcats on Thursday, Aug. 23.
