UPDATE: The Humane Society of the United States issues an update about the animals rescued in Jones

JONES COUNTY, MISS. – Thursday morning, the Humane Society of the United States issued an update regarding the health conditions of the animals rescued in a “large-scale” animal cruelty case, Wednesday in Jones County. “Right now, we are actually hopeful,” the Humane Society of the United States', Vice President of Animal Rescue, Sara Varsa said. “We are optimistic that all the conditions we are seeing, are things we can treat, or at least create a better quality of life.” A nine-year veteran in animal rescue, Varsa says she's never seen anything, like what she saw Wednesday. “A lot of them were locked in cages, and it was just caked with filth, so they were living in their own waste,” Varsa said. Conditions that officials say the animals appeared to be living in for years. “Right now, they are in the process… we are learning more about them,” Varsa said. “So, this is the first day of the start of the rest of their lives.” According to the Humane Society of the United States, they rescued more than 80 animals Wednesday.
