Special Election: Restaurant/Hotel Sales Tax

A supermajority of voters in the Hub City approved an increase of a restaurant, hotel and motel sales tax. The special election was held April 23rd. The tax will increase from two percent to three percent.

Hattiesburg city leaders say revenue generated from the one percent tax increase would be used for renovating Reed Green Coliseum on the main Hattiesburg campus of Southern Miss. The money from the tax increase would also improve parks and recreation facilities in the city.
