Swan Song: Bernie vs. Biden

And then there were two. Who would have thought this time last week that the wide-open Democratic primary would be down to two people?

The latest casualty: Elizabeth Warren, who dropped out of the race today. That sets the stage for one of the craziest showdowns in years -- Bernie Sanders and Joe Biden.

The biggest loser is not Bloomberg and his wasted millions or any of the other dropouts. It's Sanders and to some extent the Republican party. He had the nomination taken away from him four years ago and now the hierarchy of the Democratic party appears to be hanging its hopes on Biden. GOP leaders felt Sanders would be easier to beat than Biden.

At any rate, the two candidates are now switching their attention to upcoming primary elections. Mississippi’s party primaries will be held next Tuesday.

Initially, both Biden and Sanders were to campaign in the Magnolia State prior to the election. Sanders in Jackson Friday afternoon at a rally at the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum -- and Biden at a church in Jackson Sunday.

Now, Bernie has bailed on Mississippi -- opting instead to go to Michigan. Sanders' luck in the south has not been very good the last few weeks, losing every Southern primary. Instead, he will send senior staff members and surrogates to Mississippi.

I guess we are not socialistic enough to make the effort.
