Dixie EPA responding to outages after Ida
(The following is a press release from Dixie Electric Power Association.)
Dixie Electric’s servicemen and line crews responded to outages due to Hurricane Ida’s winds and heavy rainfall, causing 2,772 members to lose power. Currently, 454 members are still without power.
All of Dixie Electric line workers, contract line crews and right-of-way clearing crews began assessing damage and clearing trees and limbs from the power lines.
Here is a power outage update as of 9:30 a.m.:
• Covington – 9
• Forrest – 8
• Jones – 375
• Perry – 45
• Wayne – 17
• Total – 454
Ida will continue to bring sustained winds and heavy rainfall to our area throughout the day. We are ready to respond as power outages continue into this evening.

After the storm, do not plug generators directly into your home’s wiring. This can back feed the power lines and injure workers. Plug portable generators directly into the appliances or electronics that you want to operate.
Dixie Electric Power Association serves 39,500 accounts in a seven-county area in south Mississippi, including Jones, Wayne, Perry, Forrest, Covington, Clarke and Jasper counties.
