Plane crashes into Hattiesburg home; four people die



(The following is a press release from Hattiesburg Police. Police have since confirmed on Facebook Gerry Standley -- 55, of Hattiesburg -- was one of the four people who died in the crash. The remaining three people who died were from Texas: Louis Provenza, 67; Harper Provenza, 2; Anna Calhoun, 23.)


On Tuesday, May 4, 2021, emergency personnel responded to a report of a downed aircraft on Annie Christie Drive around 11:20 p.m.


When emergency crews arrived on scene, it was confirmed that a civilian airplane had crashed into a home.


We can confirm, in total there are four fatalities.


The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board has been contacted to handle the investigation, and are enroute to the scene.


At this time, Edwards Street is back open to thru traffic.


Annie Christie Drive is closed entirely from Evans Street, down to Collins Street.


If you find any debris or wreckage in your yard or property that you believe is connected to the crash, do not touch or remove it, and please contact the Hattiesburg Police Department at 601-467-7556.
