Mayor Johnny Dupree read the proclamation to the people of Hattiesburg in hopes to spread awareness and encourage self-check examinations for both females and males. Mayor Dupree is an avid supporter after his wife was diagnosed with breast cancer 7 years ago.

The Breast Cancer Organization says about 1 in 8 U.S. women will develop invasive breast cancer over her lifetime.
