Hattiesburg police department warns community of auto thefts

HATTIESBURG, Miss - The holiday season is here and this past weekend there were around ten auto burglaries which is not unusual during this time of year.

Police say thieves are looking for weapons to steal. Knives, handguns, and rifles were taken from some of the cars that were unlocked.

Lt. Jon Traxler says, "Make sure you check your doors and make sure they are locked. Take all your vaulables out this weekend. We did have a few auto burglaries. Out of those, only one of them had any type of force entry."

The Hattiesburg Police Department wants to remind the community to take precautions of their belongings.
