Jones county man dies in accidental house fire

JONES COUNTY, Miss - This is a press release from the Jones County Sheriff Department.

On January 2, 2016, Volunteer Fire Units from Sandersville and Rustin responded to a call at the 100 block of John Sauls Road, of a fully involved house fire. While extinguishing the blaze, the deceased body of Carl Mixon, owner of the residence, was discovered in the home.

Jones County Fire Investigator Sgt. Scott Gable, along with others of the Mississippi Fire Marshalls Office, District Attorney’s Office and Coroner’s Office, were dispatched for a full investigation.

Family members recounted to Sgt. Gable that Mixon had left their home around midnight, stating he was going to start a fire in the fireplace then go to bed. The investigation revealed the logs rolled from the fireplace onto the living room floor, causing the house to ignite. It was also noted the house did not have power connected to it. The investigation continues.
