HFD rescues 24 people due to flash floods

HATTIESBURG, Miss - The Hattiesburg Fire Department (HFD) rescued 24 people over the weekend due to the flash floods.

The National Guard, Yazoo, and Florence departments assisted HFD as the waters continued to rise.

Chief Paul Presley of HFD says, "The rivers overflowed to about 26 to 27 feet overnight and there were some people stranded in their homes and they called us out and we had to go back to some of those locations because some people stayed."

HFD is currently on stand by in Perry county as the water recedes.

No injuries were reported says Chief Presley.
