The Mississippi Health Department has released some post-flooding precaution tips.

The Health Department said when cleaning up storm-damaged areas, wear protective clothing and proper shoes to prevent cuts from debris.

Food that has been around the floodwater should be tossed out.

If you have a wound and it’s been contaminated by floodwater, you should get in contact with your healthcare provider.

If you happened to get bit by a snake while cleaning up floodwater, don't attempt to treat the wound yourself. Instead you should immediately call 911.
