Petal fire department continues to keep insurance ratings low for residents

PETAL, Miss - The Petal Fire Department contines to keep homeowner insurance rates low for residents.

Every year they are evaluated by the Mississippi Rating Bureau in Jackson to ensure commercial and personal properties have the utmost capabilities to protect citizens from any fire.

On Wednesday fire fighters looked at 40 hydrants in the city to make sure the water is clean and has the right amount of pressure.

Assistant Chieft Marion Sims said, "What the water pressue does for the rating bureau, well for commecial areas it basically says how much water do you have available to protect that commercial building or residential structure if it ever catches on fire."

In 2014 the department was rated 39 out of 40 in the water category.
