PURVIS, Miss - Today Lamar county veterans celebrated the new location of the VA office in Purvis and the consolidation of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and American Legion organizations.
Veterans Assistant Officer, James Statham said, "I am just helping veterans that is all I do, I am not gaining anything of it other than the pride of behing to help the veterans."
The office will process service connected disabilities that was caused by active duty service, also it will process non-service connected pensions for veterans over the age of 65.
"We want all veterans to know that we are open for business and that if they want to be members of the VFW or cannot qualify for the VFW, they can be members of the Legion" said Statham.
American Legion Commander, J.R. Burrow mentioned he is happy to service his fellow veterans.
"I am kind of excited, I have already been through the channels and been up through the ranks in the Legion and up in the ranks in the district" said Burrow.
Commander of the VFW said the new location is a win-win situation.
"We help the veterans as does the service officers, and it is just a good fit for the both of us" said Garon Carr.
The Purvis VA office will be open every Wednesday, from 9 am to 2 pm.
