Two vehicle accident on I-59, helicopter assistance


JONES COUNTY, Miss - Monday afternoon a victim was assisted by a helicopter to a local hospital after being ejected from the sunroof of their vehicle.

The accident involved a passenger car and a pickup truck towing a car on a trailer.

According to the Jones County Fire Rescue Department, "Mississippi Highway Patrol and Glade and Powers First Responders were the first to arrive on scene and found a severely damaged white passenger car in the middle of the road."

The Jones County Fire Rescue Department said, " According to the driver of the pickup truck, he noticed the white car approaching quickly from behind without deviation and it ended up slamming at considerable speeds into the truck's trailer, hitting the car that was in-tow. The impact resulted in the white car performing several flips."

The driver of the car sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifed by Rescue 7 to Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg.

The driver of the pickup truck is uninjured.
