City hall proclaims April as alcohol awareness month
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The city of Hattiesburg is proclaiming April as 'Alcohol Awareness' month. The city teamed up with 'Dream of Hattiesburg' in their social media campaign about the hazards of alcohol abuse.
The goal is to help young adults suffering with alcohol addiction to seek help.
Dream of Hattiesburg's Masters of Social Work intern, Brian Street said, "The youth of today, they are our future, we need to get to where they are, we need to get into social media, and put it in front of their face what they need to see, in order to make themselves prepare for the future."
The city mentioned that young people who begin drinking before 15 are 4 times more likely to develop alcohol dependence than those who begin at 21.
