HPD adds special kits to its arsenal

Hattiesburg, Miss. - The Hattiesburg Police Department received some new equipment Wednesday.

All Hattiesburg Police officers and K-9's will now have a special kit that contains a tourniquet, gauze, gloves, and tape in it.

In an event that an officer becomes injured, that officer can treat him or herself before medics arrive.

Hattiesburg Police Officer, Lt. Jon Traxler said, "It just shows that the community believes in us and wants to do their best to help us stay safe as well. In the event something should happen, give us one extra tool belt that we carry with us every day to be able to help ourselves stay alive, but also if a citizen gets hurt, we can save their life as well."

The kits should last up to 3-5 years.

Hattiesburg Police officers will be able to get new kits if they need more.
