Hattiesburg police department investigates over 40 car burglaries

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Hattiesburg Police Department (HPD) is investigating over 40 auto burglaries this past week.

HPD mentioned that the burglaries are at random and spread across the city.

About 10 to 12 of those burglaries were forced entries. The suspects took money, wallets, change, and even weapons.

Lieutenant (Lt.) Jon Traxler is reminding residents to lock their car doors.

"If within the last week or so you know someone's car got broken into and you got surveillance video in your business or your residence, if you see something, please give us a call, even if its just somebody walking late at night."

Lt. Traxler said during warmer weather, there is an increase with foot traffic on streets and for residents to be more aware of their surroundings.
